Finally, we are able to meet face-to-face and can look forward to participating in some interesting seminars and discussions. Alandia, DNV, and Wärtsilä invite you to an afternoon event which focuses on the theme ‘Greener future in a complex landscape’. ​​​​

Right now, many actions are being taken toward sustainability and many innovative ideas are being spread throughout our industry with the aim of achieving zero emission goals. But what does this changing landscape require from shipping companies?
To answer that question, we have invited some industry experts to speak and discuss solutions, innovative ideas, and practical good-to-know information.

About the speakers:

 

Jan-Erik Räsänen, Chief Techonology Officer at Foreship

Jan-Erik Räsänen is currently CTO at Foreship Ltd. He is responsible for the
global technology team which consists of experts in 3 office locations.
A well-known ship energy expert, Mr Räsänen specializes in managing/reducing
energy consumption on board ships and thereby minimizing emissions from
vessel power plants.

Based in Helsinki, Mr Räsänen’s role includes supporting shipowners with
the implementation of energy-saving solutions already developed by Foreship,
such as with ALS (air lubrication system). Drawing on a career in energy efficiency
and retrofits, he has a wealth of knowledge with the application of alternative fuels
including energy-efficient hybrid, battery and fuel-cell technologies in shipping, an expertise for which he is widely known in the maritime sector.

Presentation subject: Integration of large Energy Storage System to Existing ships

Zero emission battery power is increasingly playing a pivotal role in overcoming shipping’s sustainability challenges but integrating larger scale Energy Storage Systems on board existing
ships remains a distinct challenge. The leading cruise ship naval architecture and marine engineering solutions provider Foreship will share insights into its work to install multiple-megawatt ESS on board existing ship. In doing so, Foreship Chief Technology Officer, Jan-Erik Räsänen, will offer an overview of the process, schedule and design work underpinning such a project.

Nico Höglund is Product Manager W31 (Marine Product Management,
Marine Power Solutions) at Wärtsilä Finland Oy.
Nico’s family consists of his wife and two daughters, 10 and 7 years old,
and he lives in Vaasa, Finland. His free time is spent with his family
and sports, and also coaching a girls football team BK-48 F15/16.

He has a background in B.Sc. Industrial Management and Engineering.
Started at Wärtsilä in year 2006, he has worked in Sales Engineering,
Project Management, Technical Sales Gas applications,
Application & Technical Sales, and Product Management.

Clas Gustafsson, Techincal Manager at Furetank

Clas Gustafsson is responsible for the technical operation of
Furetank Managed vessels and for their new buildings.

His background is chief engineer and he has been working
with newbuilding’s of ships since 1996.

 

 

Presentation subject: How to build efficiency and environmental performance

Clas will talk about how important it is to have a good dialog with the suppliers of important equipment and ship designers to achieve an effective, energy efficient and environmental friendly ship. Where focus also have been easy operation, work environment and a robust construction.

 

Dani Lindberg, Sustainability Manager & DPO at Viking Line

Dani is a Sustainability Manager at Viking Line, Finland’s biggest maritime
employer, where he manages sustainability reporting and the coordination
and management of sustainability projects with both internal and external
stakeholders. Dani has worked at Viking Line for 14 years in several positions
within the cargo, technical, financial and sustainability departments.

Dani is driven by working with sustainable development and passionate about
the possibilities digitalization and technological development will open for the shipping industry at large.

Cajsa Jersler Fransson, Innovation and Diversity Coordinator at Sjöfartsverket

Cajsa is a former seafarer who works with innovations projects. After working in
operating capacities she went into the innovations projects 7 years ago, working
with technical projects like STM. With the #metoo movement she understood
that something needed to be done.

Since 2019 she have been working with social sustainability innovations within
shipping.

 

Presentation subject: REDO, a series of projects for working with preventive measures to increase the social sustainability onboard.

 

Mårten Schei-Nilsson, Area Manager Denmark, Sweden, Finland & North Atlantic

Mårten is an Area Manager in DNV, one of the world’s leading classification
societies, where he is heading the maritime operations in the Nordic countries
except for Norway. Having work with DNV for the past 12.5 years he has held
several positions within approval, classification development and management.
Before taking over as an Area Manager in May 2021 he most recently worked with
fire safety and lifesaving appliances and has through that work come across several of the most pressing safety challenges the ferry community are facing.

Mårten is driven by working with safety and to collaborate with the maritime industry on its path to net-zero
emissions. He holds a master’s degree in Naval Architecture from the Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm.

How class supports innovations and decarbonization

 

Janne Valkonen, Discipline leader – Cold Climate Advisory

Mr. Janne Valkonen is Discipline Leader for Cold Climate Advisory in DNV
Maritime Advisory Norway, in the section Safety, risk and reliability.
He is a naval architect with M.Sc. degree from the Helsinki University of Technology,
specializing in Arctic marine technology. Currently he is working with projects related
to IMO Polar Code compliance, ship ice class, winterization.

On the risk management he is working on project and enterprise risk management. Fare part of his risk
management work concerns on safety of and risks related to new decarbonization technologies for shipping.
